What is VegaSense?
VegaSense is a mobile application that can be used as a companion for people living on a vegan or plant-based diet. Perhaps you’re at the grocery store, or you’re cooking for someone, and you want to make sure to use plant-based products. With VegaSense, you can simply scan a product’s barcode and you will be indicated if it’s vegan or not based on previous users and buyers.
VegaSense is available for both iOS and Android. Both platforms share the same database.
How to use
- Install and launch the app
- Click on the camera button at the bottom of the screen
- Point the camera to a product’s barcode to scan it
- Get the results
How it works
VegaSense’s database is not centralized; it’s maintained by the community, the users. If you’re the first user to scan a specific barcode, the product won’t be in the database and you will be asked if you wish to add it. From there, you will be able to enter the product’s information and declare if it’s vegan or not by looking at the list of ingredients.
If the product was already scanned and added to the database by another user, you will get the product details and you will see if the previous user(s) declared it as vegan or not. Not only you will see this information but you will be able to vote if you agree or disagree.

Third-party ad servers or ad networks uses technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or Beacons that are used in their respective advertisements and links that appear on VegaSense. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see on this app or other apps or websites.
Note that VegaSense has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.
